Count Your Blessings

Updated: Mar 17, 2019

A Reminder To Be Grateful for the good things in your life, often to stop yourself becoming too unhappy about the bad things.

I know from personal experience this is difficult. In a world of plenty where most of us strive for more, desire what we don’t have, and lust after what’s faster, better and stronger, we forget to appreciate what we have (from http://wingsfortheheart.com/gratitude/easy-ways-count-blessings/ )

And I think being grateful is more difficult than ever today, where social media let millions of us brag about our lives. We are bombarded with how to live our lives from Facebook, Influencer´s, TV, Films, Magazines, Books etc. Even "ordinary" newspapers will tell you what to do and how to it to live a happy life. It´s like "if you do this and buy that, you too can be happy".

That is why I think it is more important than ever to Count Your Blessings. To figure out what is most important in your life.

If you google this phrase Count Your Blessings, you will find plenty of advise on how to do this and why. There are studies that shows keeping records of what we are thankful of, does have a positive effect on our mood and well being. Again, this is easier said than done for many of us, but I have actually tried this.

It was actually during a work shop many years ago. I started very small, wrote down 10 things in my life I was very happy about every single day before bedtime. They recommended to write down at least 50, that was too stressful for me. But 10 things I could do. And I did this for several days and weeks.

And I actually started to think more positive about things, which things was really important in my life and which things wasn´t. Which people was important and which one wasn´t.

I still do this exercise from time to time, not because I´m unhappy, but because I think it is important to focus on the important things in your life and that is NOT how many friends, followers or likes you get on social media. And I don´t think anyone goes through life without ups and downs. So try it, but you have to write it down, it will never work if you don´t write it down. You won´t be super happy either, but I think you will start to feel more positive. And it doesn´t cost a thing either, so what are you waiting fore ?
